RideSenior is pleased to announce an important update to our hospital transportation booking process, designed to give seniors, patients, and their families greater flexibility and a clearer understanding of the level of assistance they can request when leaving a hospital or medical facility. As part of this update, customers booking a hospital pickup can now choose between two different pickup options: Door / Curbside Pickup at no additional charge, or Hospital Pickup Assistance for an additional $15. This change reflects an important reality of hospital transportation: not every hospital pickup requires the same amount of time, coordination, parking, or personal assistance from a RideSenior Pro.

Hospital transportation can be very different from a standard ride from one address to another. In many situations, a patient is already able to leave the hospital independently or with assistance from hospital staff or a family member. The patient may simply need a reliable RideSenior Pro waiting at the hospital entrance to provide transportation home. In other situations, however, a patient may be recovering from a procedure, may have received sedation, may have mobility limitations, or may be located in a hospital unit where someone is expected to come inside and accompany them when they are discharged. These two situations require very different levels of service, and our updated booking system is intended to recognize that difference.
Previously, RideSenior applied a general hospital-related fee to hospital bookings. After reviewing how hospital pickups actually work, we determined that a more specific approach would be clearer and fairer for customers. A customer who is able to meet a RideSenior Pro at the hospital entrance should not have to pay an additional assistance fee simply because the pickup address happens to be a hospital. At the same time, when a RideSenior Pro is required to park the vehicle, enter the hospital, locate the appropriate department or unit, meet the rider, and accompany the rider back to the vehicle, that service involves additional time and responsibility beyond a normal curbside pickup.

Under the updated system, customers selecting “Hospital / Medical Facility” as their pickup location will be asked how they would like their RideSenior Pro to pick them up. Customers can choose either “Door / Curbside Pickup” or “Hospital Pickup Assistance.” This additional question makes the requested service clear before the booking is submitted and helps RideSenior coordinate the appropriate pickup with the assigned RideSenior Pro.
Door / Curbside Pickup has no additional fee. This option is intended for riders who can meet the RideSenior Pro at an accessible hospital entrance or designated pickup area. The driver arrives at the hospital and picks up the passenger outside or at the agreed entrance, similar to a normal transportation pickup. There is no $15 Hospital Pickup Assistance charge for this option.
Hospital Pickup Assistance is available for an additional $15. This option is designed for situations in which the RideSenior Pro must park the vehicle and enter the hospital or medical facility to meet the rider at the designated unit or department. The RideSenior Pro can then accompany the rider from that location through the hospital and to the vehicle. Parking is included in the $15 Hospital Pickup Assistance fee when applicable, helping make the service easier for customers to understand without having to calculate a separate parking charge.
This option can be particularly useful for hospital discharge transportation. A patient leaving a hospital after a procedure may not always be able to simply walk outside and wait for a vehicle. In some cases, the hospital may require the patient to be accompanied when leaving. A rider may also feel more comfortable knowing that their RideSenior Pro will come inside rather than requiring them to navigate a large hospital alone while looking for the correct exit or pickup location.
The purpose of Hospital Pickup Assistance is to create a smoother connection between the hospital unit and the transportation vehicle. Hospitals can be large and complex environments, with multiple buildings, entrances, elevators, departments, and pickup zones. For an older adult, someone recovering from treatment, or a family arranging transportation remotely, knowing that the RideSenior Pro is expected to enter the facility and meet the rider at the designated location can provide valuable clarity.
The new $15 fee is specifically associated with this additional pickup assistance. It is not a general fee charged simply because a passenger is traveling from a hospital. If a customer selects Door / Curbside Pickup, the additional Hospital Pickup Assistance fee is $0. If the customer requests the RideSenior Pro to park and enter the hospital to meet the rider at the unit or department, the Hospital Pickup Assistance fee is $15.
This distinction is part of RideSenior’s broader commitment to transparent pricing. We want customers and families to understand what they are requesting and what they are paying for. Instead of placing every hospital booking into the same category, the updated booking process allows the customer to select the service that better reflects their situation.
The update also helps RideSenior Pros prepare for each trip. When a RideSenior Pro knows in advance that Hospital Pickup Assistance has been requested, the driver can plan for parking and the additional time required to enter the facility and locate the rider. When Door / Curbside Pickup has been selected, the RideSenior Pro knows that the passenger is expected to meet them at the designated entrance or pickup point. Better information before a trip can reduce confusion for the rider, family, hospital staff, and driver.
RideSenior has also updated the online booking experience to make the process easier to complete. The booking form is now organized into shorter steps covering the trip, locations, passenger information, customer details, and final review. Instead of displaying a long form containing many questions at once, customers can move through the booking process one section at a time. This is especially important for seniors and family members who may be booking transportation from a mobile device or while coordinating a hospital discharge.
When Hospital / Medical Facility is selected as the pickup location, the additional hospital pickup question appears automatically. Customers do not need to search for a separate hospital service or complete another booking form. The appropriate option is presented within the normal RideSenior booking process.
Hospital Pickup Assistance should also be understood as transportation assistance rather than medical care. RideSenior provides non-emergency transportation, and RideSenior Pros do not replace nurses, healthcare professionals, patient transfer teams, paramedics, or other medical personnel. The rider should be medically ready to leave the facility before transportation takes place. RideSenior Pros can provide the transportation-related assistance associated with the selected service, but they do not perform medical procedures or clinical patient transfers.
This distinction is particularly important for families arranging transportation for an older parent or relative. When booking Hospital Pickup Assistance, families can indicate that the RideSenior Pro needs to enter the hospital and meet the rider at the designated unit or department. This can help families coordinate transportation even when they cannot personally be present at the hospital. However, any medical discharge requirements remain the responsibility of the hospital, patient, and appropriate healthcare professionals.
Waiting time is also separate from Hospital Pickup Assistance. The $15 fee covers the additional hospital pickup service, including parking when applicable. It should not be interpreted as unlimited waiting time if a rider is not ready when the RideSenior Pro arrives. Hospital discharge timing can sometimes change because of paperwork, medication, final assessments, or other hospital procedures. RideSenior’s applicable waiting-time policy remains separate from the Hospital Pickup Assistance fee so that customers can clearly distinguish between assistance entering the hospital and additional time spent waiting.
For this reason, customers arranging hospital transportation are encouraged to choose a pickup time that is as close as reasonably possible to the expected discharge or release time. If hospital staff provide an estimated discharge time, sharing accurate booking information can help RideSenior coordinate the trip more effectively. Because hospital schedules can change, communication between the rider, family, hospital staff, and RideSenior can be especially helpful.
The updated booking process is also intended to make pricing more meaningful. Rather than describing the $15 charge simply as a “hospital fee,” RideSenior uses the name “Hospital Pickup Assistance.” This better explains what the customer is purchasing. The charge is connected to an actual additional service performed by the RideSenior Pro, not merely to the type of building where the passenger happens to be located.
For example, a rider who has finished an appointment and can independently meet the RideSenior Pro at the hospital’s main entrance can select Door / Curbside Pickup and will not be charged the $15 Hospital Pickup Assistance fee. A rider being discharged from a hospital unit who needs the RideSenior Pro to park, enter the building, go to the designated department or unit, meet the rider, and accompany the rider to the vehicle can select Hospital Pickup Assistance for $15.
This approach gives customers more control while helping RideSenior maintain a service model that recognizes the additional work involved in assisted hospital pickups. It also makes it easier for families to understand the difference before confirming a booking rather than discovering an unexpected general hospital charge afterward.
Hospital transportation remains an important part of RideSenior’s mission to provide safe, reliable, and compassionate non-emergency transportation for seniors, patients, and families. Transportation home after a procedure or hospital stay may appear simple, but for many older adults it can be one of the most stressful parts of the healthcare journey. Questions about where the driver will wait, whether someone will come inside, how the patient will reach the vehicle, and who will pay for parking can create unnecessary uncertainty at a time when patients and families already have many things to manage.
The new Hospital Pickup Assistance option is designed to reduce some of that uncertainty. Customers can tell RideSenior exactly what type of pickup they need, RideSenior Pros can better understand what will be expected when they arrive, and the additional charge applies only when the additional service is requested.
RideSenior will continue reviewing customer, family, and RideSenior Pro feedback as our hospital transportation services grow. Our goal is to keep the booking process simple while recognizing that seniors and patients may require different levels of transportation assistance at different times.
For customers who only need a vehicle waiting outside the hospital, Door / Curbside Pickup remains available with no additional hospital pickup assistance charge. For customers who need a RideSenior Pro to park, enter the hospital, meet them at the designated unit or department, and accompany them to the vehicle, Hospital Pickup Assistance is now available for $15, with parking included when applicable.
By separating these two types of hospital pickups, RideSenior is making hospital transportation more transparent, more flexible, and better aligned with the actual assistance each rider needs. Whether a passenger simply needs a safe ride waiting at the entrance or additional support getting from the hospital unit to the vehicle, RideSenior is committed to helping seniors, patients, and families arrange transportation with greater clarity, confidence, and care.
