RideSenior: A Senior Round Trip with Waiting Support

RideSenior is the more transportation-focused option in this comparison. Its pricing is based mainly on the total driving distance, with separate rules for waiting time, assistance, and equipment when those items apply. For a round trip, the system adds the outbound distance and the return distance together. A 10-kilometre outbound trip plus a 10-kilometre return trip is therefore priced as a total distance of 20 kilometres.

The current RideSenior pricing formula charges $32 for the first 10 kilometres. For distances above 10 kilometres and up to 30 kilometres, it adds $1.10 for each additional kilometre. In this example, the first 10 kilometres cost $32, and the remaining 10 kilometres cost $11. The total distance fee is therefore $43 before tax.

RideSenior then calculates waiting time for a round trip. Importantly, it does not treat the entire two-hour service window as waiting time. This estimate assumes that the passenger does not require a separately priced assistance option. RideSenior’s code can add $5 for walker assistance, $10 for wheelchair assistance, or $10 for other assistance. Equipment rental is also separate: a wheelchair is priced at $10 per hour and a mobility scooter at $20 per hour. Parking, when incurred, may also need to be handled separately according to the booking circumstances. The senior may need someone to walk beside them through a hospital entrance, help locate the correct department, listen carefully to basic non-clinical instructions, or make sure they feel comfortable while waiting.
